Preliminary review documentation (VPD) by uni-assist
uni-assist e.V., the University Application Service for International Students acts as an external partner for the University of Bayreuth, verifying international academic transcripts and issuing a preliminary review documentation (Vorprüfungsdokumentation (VPD). This VPD must be uploaded as part of the application to the University of Bayreuth.

Do I need a preliminary review documentation (VPD)?
YES, YOU NEED A VPD IF:
- you hold a qualification from abroad
- you are applying for a bachelor’s or master’s degree programme

When do I need to request preliminary review documentation (VPD)?
AS SOON AS POSSIBLE:
Request a (VPD) via the uni-assist web portal MyAssist
- Processing at uni-assist takes approximately 6-8 weeks. You can find the current uni-assist processing times here.
- uni-assist issues one VPD per university. You must submit this VPD to the University of Bayreuth via the CAMPUSonline portal when applying for your chosen degree programme.

When do I need submit my application to the University of Bayreuth?
AS SOON AS THE CAMPUSonline APPLICATION PORTAL OPENS:
Submit your application to the UBT via the application portal CAMPUSonline
- Applications can only be submitted via the CAMPUSonline application portal at the University of Bayreuth (UBT) during the application periods for your chosen degree programme.
- Please check the UBT study programme finder in advance to find out about the admission requirements for your desired programme and collect all the necessary application documents.

RUNNING LATE?
- The VPD must be requested from uni-assist by the application deadline for your chosen degree programme at UBT at the latest.
- If the VPD was requested within the relevant application deadline, it may be submitted within a grace period of up to four weeks following the application deadline.
An application via CAMPUSonline is always necessary. The application to UBT for your desired programme must be submitted via the CAMPUSonline portal within the designated application period. Only if you submit your application on time will you be able to upload your preliminary review documentation at a later stage.

In the uni-assist web portal MyAssist, please select ‘University of Bayreuth’ as the university and your desired degree programme.
You can have your documents reviewed by uni-assist any time of the year. If the portal for the desired semester has not yet been opened at uni-assist, simply select the current semester. It does not matter whether you request the VPD for the summer semester or the winter semester at uni-assist. Please note, however, that the application deadline at UBT must be met.
Please be aware that a request for preliminary review documentation via the uni-assist web portal alone does not qualify as an application for a degree programme at UBT! An application to UBT for the desired degree programme via the CAMPUSonline application portal is always necessary.

You must upload the documents required by uni-assist within the deadline to the uni-assist website.
For a Bachelor's degree programme, you need:
- a copy of your higher education entrance qualification in the original language (the higher education entrance qualification usually includes your secondary school certificate, e.g. A-Levels, and additionally the certificate of your preparatory college assessment test if you have completed the Studienkolleg. Depending on origin and individual background, the higher education entrance qualification may also include other documents),
- a translation if the original document was not issued in German or English.
Please note that if you are admitted, you must present all documents demanded by uni-assist for proof of your higher education entrance qualification upon enrollment.
For a Master's degree programme, you usually also need:
- a copy of your degree certificate (if already available),
- a copy of your subjects and grades (transcript),
- a translation if the original documents were not issued in German or English.
Uni-assist may require additional documents from you in order to issue the VPD depending on your country.
Please upload only those documents that are relevant to your VPD request. The following documents are not required: identification, motivation letters, essays or language certificates.
The request is not complete until all required documents have been uploaded to the uni-assist website and the handling fees have been paid to uni-assist. The documents and the payment must reach uni-assist before the respective UBT application deadline otherwise the VPD has not been requested for in due time.

The VPD must be requested from uni-assist by the application deadline for your chosen degree programme at UBT at the latest.
We recommend requesting a VPD as early as possible as the processing time of uni-assist can be 6 - 8 weeks. Information on the current uni-assist processing times can be found here.

If you already have a VPD from uni-assist when applying online via the CAMPUSonline applicant portal, please upload it.
If you have not yet uploaded a VPD, your application documents will be marked as ‘provisionally incomplete’ so that you can submit the VPD at a later date once it has been issued by uni-assist.
At this stage, we will also check whether all other documents relevant to your admission are in order. If you need to correct or submit anything further, we will mark the relevant document with the status “not OK” and provide a reason. You will find the reason for the “not OK” status in your CAMPUSonline application.

Applications can only be submitted via the CAMPUSonline application portal at the University of Bayreuth (UBT) during the application periods for your chosen degree programme.

If you do not yet have a VPD from uni-assist when you apply online in the CAMPUSonline applicant portal, please confirm that you have applied for the VPD for your application to UBT in full and on time by entering your 7-digit uni-assist applicant number in the CAMPUSonline applicant portal.
Your application will only be processed further if this number can be verified by the UBT at uni-assist.

Now upload the final preliminary review documentation (VPD) in your application in CAMPUSonline within the grace period.
The grace period will only be given if all other application documents except the VPD have been uploaded correctly and completely. For degree programmes with restricted admission or an aptitude assessment process, the University of Bayreuth reserves the right to set a shorter deadline for the submission of supporting documents.
As soon as you have uploaded your final VPD, your application will be processed further.

uni-assist usually needs about 4 to 6 weeks to process your application.
After uni-assist has finished processing your request, the final preliminary review documentation (VPD) will be sent to you via email as a PDF.
The VPD is valid for 1 year from the date of issue.
In the event of re-admission, and provided that there have been no changes in the meantime to your higher education entrance qualification (in the case of an application for Bachelor's degree programmes) or your Master's access qualification (in the case of an application for Master's degree programmes), or the admission requirements, we will accept the VPD for up to two years from the date of issue.
A VPD, which is for another university, will not be accepted by the University of Bayreuth.

If you have requested the VPD on time and in full, you will be given a grace period of up to four weeks. The University of Bayreuth reserves the right to set a shorter grace period for degree programmes with admission restrictions or aptitude procedures.
If you have not submitted your VPD to us by the extended deadline in accordance with the instructions on CAMPUSonline, your application will be deemed not to have been received in time and you will subsequently receive a letter of rejection. Please therefore submit your application to uni-assist as early as possible, as the processing time at uni-assist can take 6–8 weeks.
If you have unfortunately missed the application deadline, you can reapply for the next semester using the VPD you have received. You do not need to submit a new application to uni-assist for this.

Who has to request a VPD from uni-assist for an application to the University of Bayreuth?
- All applicants for a Bachelor’s degree, state examination or teacher training programme, who did not obtain their university entrance qualification in Germany or from a school that offers the equivalent of the German Abitur exam.
- All applicants for a master's degree who did not obtain their qualification for postgraduate studies (usually a bachelor's degree) at a German university.
Please note: You cannot circumvent the VPD process if you have already obtained a master's degree in Germany or another EU country. - All applicants with an International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) who do not yet have a Notification of the Office for Certificate Recognition.
- All applicants who have completed preparatory studies in a Studienkolleg in Germany
(unless:they were referred to the Studienkolleg München by the University of Bayreuth and passed the assessment test (Feststellungsprüfung).
Please note: attending a Studienkolleg in Germany does not make you a Bildungsinländer; Studienkolleg graduates will still need to submit a VPD, unless:They were allocated to the Studienkolleg München by the University of Bayreuth and passed the Feststellungsprüfung there.

In which cases is it not necessary to submit a VPD?
For a Bachelor’s:- All applicants who obtained their higher education entrance qualification in Germany or their Abitur certificate (graduation diploma) from a school that applies the German Abitur examination rules.
- Graduates of European Schools: A certificate showing proof of general higher education qualification from a European School is treated as equivalent to the German certificate. Please upload your complete European School Certificate and the corresponding decision of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs issued by the German inspector for the European Schools. You will receive both documents from your school.
- AbiBac applicants: Along with their qualification certificate, these applicants must submit the “certificate of general university entrance qualification” to the University of Bayreuth.
- Graduates of the German Schools system in Greece: Along with your supplementary examination certificate, please submit your Apolytirio (school-leaving certificate).
- Applicants for Double-Degree-Programmes at the University of Bayreuth.
- You are already enrolled as a degree student at the University of Bayreuth.
For a Master’s:- Applicants with a relevant entrance qualification for Master’s degree programmes (e.g. a Bachelor’s degree) obtained at a German university.
Please note: You cannot circumvent the VPD process if you have already obtained a master's degree in Germany. - You have already been admitted to the relevant degree programme at UBT for a previous semester without preliminary review documentation from uni-assist.
- All applicants who obtained their higher education entrance qualification in Germany or their Abitur certificate (graduation diploma) from a school that applies the German Abitur examination rules.
