Registration

BayDoc is the online registration platform for doctoral students at the University of Bayreuth. It supports you through the entire doctoral phase.

The doctoral regulations of the various institutes at the University of Bayreuth require all doctoral students to register online. The registration form collects data that must be reported annually on ongoing doctoral projects at the university as required by law (HStatG).

A number of survey characteristics are recorded for doctoral researchers in ongoing doctoral processes. This data is collected via online registration.

Access to the registration platform requires a valid bt-username provided by the University of Bayreuth’s IT Service Centre. If you do not yet have a valid username, please follow the instructions on the start page for registration.

Verification

Once you have completed online registration, your request will be verified by the responsible supervisor. Under the "Download" tab in the registration platform, you will then find your Letter of Confirmation as a PDF file.

  • Conditional acceptance for doctoral research
Once you have registered as a doctoral student with a faculty or graduate school, please submit an application for acceptance for doctoral research to the relevant institute in a timely manner. Enrolment is only possible for a period of up to three years as provided for by Bavarian law (BayHSchG) once acceptance for doctoral research has been granted. You can be enrolled in a doctoral subject for up to one year via “conditional acceptance for doctoral research”. In order to remain enrolled, a confirmation of “direct acceptance for doctoral research” must then be issued by the relevant institute by the end of the second semester at the latest and submitted by you to the Student Administration Office.
  • Direct acceptance for doctoral research
If you have registered as a doctoral researcher with a faculty or graduate school and “direct acceptance for doctoral research” as described in the doctoral regulations has been granted, direct enrolment for up to three years as provided for by Bavarian law (BayHSchG) is possible.

For the next steps, you will need the confirmation of "conditional acceptance for doctoral research" or "direct acceptance for doctoral research" in the subject area of your doctorate:

De-Registration after six semesters and requesting an extension of doctoral sutdies beyond the sixth semesterHide

Enrolment automatically ends for doctoral students when the doctorate is completed; at the latest, however, it ends after three years. In accordance with these legal provisions, enrolment generally ceases for doctoral students after the end of the sixth semester of their doctoral studies, and they may not renew their enrolment after this time.

Enrolment for the purpose of doctoral studies beyond the sixth semester in the doctoral programme is only permissible for compelling reasons that must be related to the doctorate and must be confirmed by the relevant faculty. In addition, the enrolment period can be extended for international students if this is necessary due to residence regulations (§ 14 para 5 of the University of Bayreuth’s Enrolment Statutes).

If it is necessary for you to be enrolled for doctoral studies beyond the sixth semester, please submit your request using the following form and provide the necessary documents.

Improtant:

Please note that these provisions only apply to enrolment for the purpose of doctoral studies, but not the doctorate itself.

Enrolment as a doctoral student does not mean that the requirements for acceptance for doctoral studies have been met. The requirements for acceptance for doctoral studies are exclusively governed by the provisions of the doctoral regulations of the respective institute.

If you have any further questions regarding enrolment, please do not hesitate to contact the Student Administration Office Team.

International students interested in doctoral studies will find additional information here.
